WHERE ART MEETS INK: THE BLACK ARTS STUDIO GRAND OPENING ON 4TH MARCH 2017.
Hastings is celebrated for embracing unique and creative culture, never shying away from the alternative. Local tattoo artist Matt Black is launching the appropriately named The Black Arts Studio, a brand new tattoo and piercing studio located in Hastings town centre, with an aim to encompass all these characteristics and take tattooing to a whole new level, with a fusion of art, the occult and ink. Situated at Unit 1, 3 Harold Place TN34 1JA the grand opening will take place of SATURDAY 4th MARCH and will be open to the public from 2pm – it is sponsored by Hopdaemon Brewery http://www.hopdaemon.com/ The Black Arts Studio will be displaying the portfolios of studio owner Matt Black and up and coming tattoo artist/ piercer Mel Ellis, alongside artwork from members of The Satanist Cartoonists, a coven created by Satanic Mojo Comix’s legendary creator Jason Atomic. Special guests attending the grand opening of The Black Arts Studio include Jason Atomic along with fellow Satanist Cartoonists artists Billy Chainsaw, Graham Humphreys and Matt Valentine. Anyone attending the grand opening will get an exclusive opportunity to score signed copies of Satanic Mojo Comix signed by the contributing artists in attendance. Matt Black is a well-established tattoo artist along the south coast, whose tattoo style is bold and colourful with a lean towards black and red graphic novel style designs. When asked, The Black Arts Studio owner had this to say about his new venture: “Art should not be restricted to galleries and museums, nor does it have to conform to the norm. Which is why I am embracing and exhibiting eclectic and inspiring works by individuals who are in touch with their dark side: such as globally renowned, mixed-media pop artist Billy Chainsaw; legendary illustrator and movie poster artist Graham Humphreys; and wood-cut print artist Matt Valentine; alongside home-grown talent such as Drew Copus – as well as my own, of course. Most of the art on display are original one-offs, and reflect the passion and devilishly dark side of The Black Arts Studio. I have been of lover of macabre and occult art for many years and have been lucky enough to meet wonderful people along the way, forging some great friendships. So when I decided to open my own tattoo studio I wanted it to be not only a workspace, but also a location in which I could broaden the awareness of amazing artists and create a south coast hub for the darker side of art. It also had to be the antithesis of clinical, white wall galleries. The Black Arts is my love, and I want people to come and enjoy our little patch of darkness by the sea. Home is where the dark is.” Contact: firstname.lastname@example.org Tel: 07725315062 or 01424 576048
